As the image suggests, we think annual predictions are, for the most part, a load of crap. But it’s a staple of the year-end, soft news cycle. So when Jason Chupick at PRNewser asked Profnet subscribers for “Industry Predictions and New Year's Resolutions,” we sent one in for consideration.
PREDICTION: In 2008, hard-earned advice, well-written books and forward-thinking conferences will be heaped upon the PR industry. AGAIN. And most PR people will continue to ignore it. AGAIN.RESOLUTION: All of the continuing education in the world is useless unless you apply it. So while you're reading blogs and books and attending conferences, don't forget to just do your best work.
To Jason’s credit, he quickly replied and wondered aloud what YOUR predictions and New Year’s resolutions might be. Yes, you! So drop Jason a line and don’t hold back. Your entry will be in the running for inclusion in a forthcoming PRNewser post.
The sassy, original request follows:”I'm seeking serious, fun, and snarky predictions and New Year's resolutions about the PR industry. Do you resolve to pitch more? pitch less? get a promotion? return your client's calls on time? land a client? try your hand at leaks? if you're in-house, hire a new agency? get more from the one you have?
This can be on the record, off the record with agency attribution, or unattributed completely if really outrageous. I'll run lots of them. Along the same line, I'm seeking PR predictions for 2008. Mergers, folds, more Chris Anderson-type blog posts about PR people? Bring it on.”
Consider it brought Jason.

PR people will have to learn to pitch to bloggers-or they will continue to be ignored.
I definitely agree with the prediction and resolution posted in the article. There are so many seminars and whatnots being held all over the country. And I'm not just talking about the PR industry. It would certainly do us good to seek them out and incorporate everything we learn from attending them.
