Richard (Edelman) Represents

We were working on a post called, “Ode to Jason Calacanis.” It’s more of a poem really…using lots of colorful, urban language, including words that rhyme with “brother trucker.”

Luckily Richard Edelman made our rant poem moot with this post.**

"I am heartily sick of the ad hominem attacks and cheap shots taken by those who would try to draw attention to themselves. >snip< The reality is that PR people work hard at delivering creative story ideas that often have their basis in policy change or product advances. >snip< Stop the open season on PR people and recognize that smart entrepreneurs will continue to use us to deliver outstanding results that build their businesses."

Edelman shows us THE best way to respond to a pissing match – with authority. He also hits upon why we started this blog. The whole post just stokes our pride in our craft and this industry.

Public relations, REPRESENT!

** Richard's post joins several other good responses to another thread of the PR is dead (or should be) meme .

  1. Poor Jason... he thinks all we do is media relations these days. Doesn't he know we're all trained to watch for this kind of stuff getting posted about our clients and how to handle each on a case-by-case basis?

That said, if he ever has a crisis arise, since he says no one needs PR, I think we should all let him handle crisis comm on his own.

  2. I'm glad Richard defended PR. I'm getting sick and tired of all the "PR people are useless" attacks. Yes, maybe if Jason is savvy-enough he COULD do some media relations on his own, but he wouldn't have time if he was busy doing the job he was supposed to do....it's called outsourcing people. Keep your core competency and outsource the rest!
