Bad Pitch's "Bazaar" Holiday Present

Richard and I were reminded recently of why we continue to write this blog thanks to an email from Bazaarvoice's Social Media Manager Ian Greenleigh:

---

I just realized I never thanked you for setting in motion what is perhaps the biggest accomplishment of my life: getting my current job. Here’s how it happened, in exec summary form:

1. I happened upon your post about Grant Turck and his Facebook Ad, saved it for later.

2. About a month later, I found myself in desperate need of a stable job. I read the post, and decided to contact Grant.

3. Grant gave me some wonderful insider tips; what was working, what was not, etc.

4. I put up my own ad, targeting by both employer and by title/bio. I linked it to an ad-specific landing page on my blog.

5. I blogged about the entire process (1, 2, 3).

6. I landed more interviews than anyone else I knew in the job market in a matter of weeks, one of which was with Bazaarvoice. Several offers were on the table, and I was in an incredible position.

7. I was screened out in my initial Bazaarvoice phone interview, but then I blogged about it. The CMO at the time saw the Google alert and called me back in.

8. I spent less than $200 total, and I got my dream job.

And it all started with your post. Thank you.

Gratefully, Ian Greenleigh

Well you're welcome Ian. But to be honest, we appreciate you reconnecting in with us (nearly a year after we wrote the post that kicked this off). And thanks to Grant as well for helping out.
This? THIS is why we do this. You may think we enjoy dealing with all the cotton headed ninny muggins out there. Well, we'd rather see more emails like this one.

  1. That is an awesome story!

Thanks for sharing Kevin. As a fellow job seeker it's always nice to hear new and innovative ways to make yourself stand out to an employer.

Ian, congrats and best of luck in the new position!
